At the beginning of October 2021, I photographed the gorgeous wedding of Hannah and Jaymie at Bryn Meadows Hotel and Spa, Ystrad Mynach.
I arrived three hours before for bride prep and to chat to the venue as the weather report was looking a bit all over the place for the day, so I had to make backup plans in case of rain.
I found a little corner on a fabulous chair to photograph the details.
When the girls had finished hair and makeup I took some photos with their wedding day robes.
Then it was time to dress, Hannah didn’t have a big reveal to anyone as everyone (other than her Aunts and cousins etc) had seen her dress. Once she was in her wedding attire and everyone else was ready we braved the outside. The rain had started and was to continue for a number of hours.
I met up with Jaymie and he was completely chilled and looking forward to the day ahead.
As soon as he saw Hannah, Jamie got emotional.
It was a lovely ceremony, and fab for me as there was lots of space for me to move. They barely took their eyes off each other.
I loved this venue as there was a gorgeous amount of light, even on a rainy day.
The venue allowed us to do confetti inside as it was torrential outside, so we formed a hoseshoe of their friends and family, when I said ‘go’ they threw the confetti, which was beautiful.
A lot of confetti fell. Thank goodness the venue was understanding.
Hannah’s decor was gorgeous, low laying florals on the top table and tall on the guest tables. Perfect for when I photograph the speeches as there won’t be anything obscuring the view on the top table (hint there: nothing tall on the top table). Plus tall foliage is great on a guest table to photograph past and give that layered effect.
Hannah’s dad baked and decorated her wedding cake, inspired by the classic Wedgewood pottery style.
Their speeches were full of laughter, I love this as I get to capture reactions.
Just after first course the rain stopped, the first time all day and they wanted to sneak out whilst everyone else was eating for some portraits as they were worried we may not get another chance, and I support decisions like this and I think they were 100% right.
I then photographed the rings and bouquet while they were back in with everyone.
After food we were fortunate to have a little gap in the clouds to wander to the main club area, unfortunately because of the rain we couldn’t use a cart so had to stick to the top area – but look at that view!
Lots of chatting, celebrating, cutting the cake and they danced the night away.
